Shaq vs. Kobe

Seriously, who would you rather have? One guy has NO comparision in the league, the other one is coming out of the same cookie cutter 6'8" swing man who can dunk mold.

Obvioulsy Shaq is more important. He would have won those championships with man other players substituting for Kobe. Paul Pierce, McGrady, Iverson, Kidd, Vince Carter, etc etc.

noone in the league can stop Shaq, they can stop Kobe.

two baseball notes ...

apparently there was still baseball being played after the sox were bounced out. Sadly the beloved Yankees, baseballs little engines that could, struggled against an over priced Marlins team that bought this world series by offering the ungodly amount of $10 million to ONE player, pudge Rodriguez last winter. It is this 'free agency' abuse that will ruin america's favorite pastime in the future.

Grady little is fired. Whoever is surprised by this news please slap yoruself in the face as it has been obvious since June that this was his finally year, even if he won the world series, cured cancer AND aids, and found Whitey Bulger.

btw - Congrads Marlins, now see if you can lose less than 100 games next year.

feeling lazy ....

Since I am feeling lazy, but I know people out there can't get enough of me, I will let someone else do my talking. ESPN.com's Daily Quickie Has the words in them about Shaq and Kobe's Feud:

Kobe's "my game" vs. Shaq's "my team":
That nicely sums up the story, for those arriving late.

The Lakers can win the title this season without Kobe, but not without Shaq -- and O'Neal knows it.

Shaq is the greatest player in the NBA for probably the last 6 or 7 years. Unstoppable. Man among Boys. He is the Wilt Chamberlin of today, except there are no teams liek those Celtics adn definatly not any that have a Bill Russel.

Just had to toot my own horn for a bit. Also had to comment on my posts, haha.

The negativity about this trade ....

After reading this articlehttp://insider.espn.go.com/insider/story?id=1642930&CMP=ILC-INHEAD It got me wondering, why does no one like this trade for the celtics? All of a sudden people are fallign in love with Walker again? The guy coudl score easily on the block against a large percentage fot he men who guard him, yet he takes the guy outside and shoots, what, 20% from 3-point land? This is a guy who has left Boston fasn wanting more ever since he came into the league. We have been waiting and waiting for him to mature into the player we could build around.

That never happened.

Then Paul Pierce came around and sealed Walker's fate. Pierce is now The Man in Boston. Hey, after you survive being stabbed 900(or so) times, you deserve to be The Man. Paul has already showed more maturity than one ever saw in Walker. No examples, I don't like to do my own research.

We have been waiting for this year to trade walker and get ANYONE out of the deal. To get a big man who can actually block some shots(he did well when playing in Denver) and then go out side and shoot (Again, see Denver, the last time he truly played), well that is a great deal in my book. Don't even get me started on the fact we got a promising young(1 year) guard in Jiri Welsch who can stroke the 3 with the best of them. Now you have a great young backcourt tandem (Welsch and 1st round pick Banks) to go with your superstar, Paul Pierce. Up in the front court, you ahve a guy who can play center for you (LaFrentz) who now has a shot at the all-star team(who doesn't in the East at center?), alongside the guy who was going to start, Battie, and Vin Baker, who may be back in some form to contribute. Add that to opening time at the power forward spot (the misnomer of Antoine's former position) for the 3 aforementioned and fellow draft pick Kendrick Perkins, you ahve room to develop a player who would've been stuffed behind Battie and Baker at center, with no hope fo displacing Walker for minutes at the 4.

I say this is a good deal for EVERYONE involved. Delk and Walker go to a good team to contribute, LaFrentz gets out of a town that didn't want him and Jiri gets a chance to prove himself(which he probably would not have had in Dallas).

I applaude Cuban and Ainge.

Bye Bye Antoine

Celtics and the Mavericks hook up for a trade that no doubt will hurt the Mavericks.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1642156

Now I know the mavs like to play a run and gun offense, which is exactly the way Walker plays, but I do think his lack of size will hurt Dallas. Dallas unable to get the big man they needed this offseason traded away the closest thing they had (LaFrentz) to get an undersized (Especially in the west) Walker. Walker can't guard the big men in the west for sure, and of course you can't really play him at the 3 either (especially since trading for Jamison). The Mavs have too many 'good' players in too many positions. They lack 1 thing, and the is Size in the middle. Needless to say this (better) be a career year for Bradley(7'6" stiff).

For the Celtics on the other hand, this might work out. LaFrentz certainly has the size to play center in the east or power forward as it may. He can step out and shoot whihc is a good thing for a bgi man to do in this celtics 3 point happy offense(a la Rodney Rogers). LaFrentz makes a three headed monster of Battie (rejuvenated, we hope) Vinny Baker and now Lafrentz. Combining these 3 at the center and power forward spot will make them a big team in the east. This also helps open the door for rookie, Kendrick Perkins, to get some playing time this year he other wise wouldve missed out on, due to lack of minutes to split, especially with walker getting 40ish a game.

However also thrown into this trade was tony Delk. I liked him and his guard play. It just means the reigns of starting PG are being handed to MArcus Banks the rookie from UNLV. We do get Jiri Welsch back form Dallas who played last year for Golden State as a European Rookie. He has the ability to shoot the three as the report on him goes. HE and Banks should see some playing time this year in addition to Mike James. Needless to say the starting 2guard will remain Paul Pierce and this team is now his.

Over all I think the participants in this trade will be happy with their new surroundings. Walker and Delk get dealt to one of the top 4 teams in the league. LaFrentz is out of the doghouse that he was always in in Dallas, where he was never appreciated, but shoudl fit in nicely with Boston. Jiri is a wild card in this deal fo sorts. When he was thrown in to the GS-Dallas trade this year i was shocked as he had value as an up and comer in this league. Now that the celtics ahve him and most likely will give him playing time, we need him to step up and produce. The only problem with this trade from the celtics persepctive is that they need to make up Walker's points somewhere. Given the amount of shots he heaved up, anyone can do that, but someone needs to whether it be Banks, Welsch Battie, Baker, or a combo, someone needs to.

As far as Chris Mills, I heard that Dallas was shoopping him due to his expiring contract. Not 100% on that though. Also Dallas throws in a draft pick which figures to be in the bottom 5 of the draft next year, but is still is a first rounder.

I can't say it better than this

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/031017.html

just please. keep the "haha yankees rule" stuff to a minimum. I don't think you can even begin to believe how much it actually hurts now. the past 6 years were no where near as bad as this one.

It was in our grips and we dropped the ball....

KILL ME KILL ME

good luck getting another job Little you dumbass. HOW DO YOU KEEP PEDRO IN WHEN HE IS GETTING SHELLED

what a waste of the past 2 weeks of my life.

someone needs to pay for this.

Thursday, October 16, 2003

why us? why us? Why did he keep pedro in? He had pitched great, but his stuff was clearly gone. Please let us get out of this.

I hate the seventh inning stretch in New York

It is the same stinking guy every time. Its old and useless. It forces the opposing pitcher to have to wait extra long and not get to throw. It is a blatent advantage to the Yankees and it is the kind of action that disgusts the rest of the country.

why is noone else afforded this advantage?

"They get creative here in Yankee stadium"

Puhlease, real creatrive K signs the last few nights with 1918 written on them. Sure tongihts with Don Zimmer as a cut boxer were funny the previous ones that looked liek a 7 year old drew them (and werent they old men hanging them?) were not special.

While I have a minute to complain about things that don't need complaining about: Nick Johnson.

He had a chance to get off the bag earlier to get enrique wilsons bad throw. bad the runner is still safe but he could've saved his team a run. Once again. I am not complaining as it helped my team out, but as a former first baseman, I recognized it as a terrible play by johnson to not make an effort to stop that ball.

Was there anyone else who wanted to hear Bret Boone say, after the wilson error, that he thought his brother would've made the play? I wanted him to say something. Spark up my interest in this subpar announcing crew.

update

Giambi hit a homer. thats ok though. still got a three run lead. Pedro is looking solid. I would like to see him get into the 7th and even better if he finishes the 7th to bring on Timlin and Williamson for the 8th and 9th.

game 7 update

Well Roger was just taken out of the game that the sox are leading 4-0. The redsox actually sent the runners in a hit and run and it worked!! to perfection. jeter went to cover 2nd and right through the hole he left it went.

Mussina is coming in and I would love to see the sox pile on some more runs so i can relax.

btw at 8:20 I saw fox pan over Andrew Shue. Thats right Andrew Shue was in the audience. I guess all the stars are coming out (sarcasm)

still talking sox

The sox forced a game 7. Keeping the dream alive. A great game last night as the sox got on the board for 9 runs. Is the offense back? Maybe. Unfortunatly you have a pretty good pitcher going tonight in clemens. Clemens vs. Pedro again. I don't really know what to expect. I can see it being a 2-1 game again, or 9-8. I am not sure, but I hope the redsox score more runs. I hope we see a good pedro game and eh can carry us past the 5th inning and hopefully into the 7th.

I just want to win. Is that really to much to ask?

So Go Sox! Cowboy Up! And remember, you owe this to me!

Game 4

WOW.

Great game. So much fun to be in Fenway for games. it is unreal!

Sox win. Nothing too much exciting other than the result. Walker and Nixon hit home runs(of course). Wake pitched an EXCELLENT game and then timlin and williamson shut the door.

Good game.

Then I got to play wingman for the rest of the night.

Petals around the roses

This is a fun little mind game Petals around the roses . Watch out for the horrible midi sound that plays when you launch it.

I have solved it. The solution is funny in that once you find out what it is you are kicking yourself.

RedSox/Yankees

Well the Yankees won game two, and then game three. The real news was in game three's bull rush attempt by don zimmer (DON ZIMMER!?!?!) at Pedro Martinez. I guess he was mad at Pedro throwing at Karim Garcias head. From what I have seen and heard KArim was ducking from a pitch and fouled the ball off. The umpires knew it was a foul ball and called it that, but then decided to award him first base ON A FOUL BALL!!!! Of course they did. Heaven forbid they actually earn it. That is such BS that it is hard to comprehend.

Anyways, I am curious to see what happens with the summons to NElson and Garcia. Apparently that kid in the bullpen got beat up pretty bad. As soon as i found out he wasnt some looney jumping into the bullpen, i joined his side. If he had jumped into the bullpen I would be all for kickign the crap out of him. I found it quite amusing that Garcia hurt his hand(early reports are that he had a baseball in his hand and he was punching the kid with that ball and hand. Lack of self control by Nelson seems to be the reason for this. Obvioulsy he thought he coudl do what he wanted because he was protected baseball player. I am curious to see what happens from this. Criminal charges MAY apply but it will be interesting to see what becomes of this as it will impact player/fan relationships in the future possibly in a way that I am not excited about. More on that as it developes.

Apparently Game 5 is tongiht, becasue I have to go to tongihts game, even though the series is at 2-1. Interesting. Anyways, its better for me because this game means more. Though I know my buddy the yankees fan, Mike Brennan, was hoping that he would get to see a yankees clinching game.ha ha. This postponement works out well for the Sox as they don't have to pithc burkett yet and get to go with wakefiled and lowe(in Fenway where he is better!) in games 4+5 (as opposed to burkett and wakefield in 4+5 and Lowe in yankees stadium in game 6). All of this and Pedro in game 7. Nice.

Well, Time for this Cowboy up to prepare for the game tongiht.

Enjoy!

since my last post. I know most of you are on pins and needles waiting for my next comments. I was out near Rochester, NY on friday attending a wedding. In case anyone was wondering the Bride was gorgeous and the wedding and reception were fun.

So i don't feel the need to apologize for my missing time.

Sox Win 5-2, take the first game

We won, we won, we won. Good enough for me. Wake pitched good, Embree did not, Timlin did, and Williamson did(after a little bit). Thats the usual stuff. Hindsight says Wake should not have come out for the 7th, but I was calling for him to come out, so obviously I was wrong too. The hitting although getting better(is Manny heating up?) still is not pounding out hits like I would like to see. Its been a hit then a home run, or just a solo shot. I want to see back to back doubles or something. A little rally. Then I will know the bats are back.

I have Game 5 tickets in Fenway. I kind of hope I don't have to go.

Lets hope these sox don't want to just settle for a split in NY. I will take a lowe win with pedro in Fenway on saturday.

stupid UMass kids ...

I just saw on the news that the stupid Umass kids rioted after saturday (or was it sunday's) game. How dumb are these kids? And this is supposed to be the pinnacle of massachusetts's education system? Please. Riot after the redsox win something important. Like after redsox win tonight.

Pull yourselves together.

Cowboy Up!

Lets go Sox!

Going back to cali ....

Well I was at the game on sunday. It was super duper freaking awesome. The place was alive and it definatly was the best ball game I have ever seen in person. Waaaay to much tension for me. I'd have perfered them to come out and stake themsevles to a 10 run lead, but oh well maybe tonight. The game was awesome. Of course I thought ORtiz hit a homer, so i was jumping around hugging people like an idiot when it turns out it was only a double. Still knocked in the go ahead run, so the hugs were applicable. I just love high fives form the randomd people sitting around you. It makes for solidly good times. Of course some of these people also had the pats game on the radio. Shortly after the ortiz double, i heard Ty Law brought back an interception for a touchdown. Time for a second round of cheers.

Things are looking good in beantown right now.
Very Good.

And Pedro is starting tonight?
Damn Good.

I stayed up for this?

The redsox game ended at 2:44 am EST today. I know because I stayed up to watch the sox bullpen blow the save (should've left kim in to blow the save, imo) Then lose it in extra innings on a bases loaded bunt. Very nice bunt by the way, great call, who's ever it was. I like BK was upset at the HBP he gave up in the ninth. I was pretty sure when you open up on a pitch like that, it is not a HBP because you bring the bat around. I hate how they just give a guy a base when he gets hit now. They never even try to determine if he moved out of the way or not (not the case last night, that was if he swung or not).

Anywyas, we still have the chance for a split in oakland then win two in Fewnway. That is the better solution for me anywas, since i have Game 4 tickets.

Cowboy up! Go RedSox!
