Stern a victim?

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/breaking_news/8047003.htm

So Howard Stern is being suspended by Clear Channel fro his vulagarities on his show. First point, what did you expect the show has been the same for years. Second, This is stupid.

Did you know on a show "Two and a half men" There was a bare ass? Good thing this show isn't on during primetime family hour and is not a show centered on a little boy. If it was then this would be bad and be made to cut that, right?

I am still shocked everytime I here the word Ass on t.v. Now I am saying we have two choices. Start showing boobs and softcore on oover the air t.v. stations or cut all of the questionable content. Violence and sexuality need to go as well.

Our society is in the middle of a freefall and the people there that need to protect us are aiming their weapons on the wrong people.

Pujols Signs for $100 million over 7 years

Well the good thing about this is that now nomar has no grounds for asking for more than $14 million, since Pujols is the best young hitter out there. He sets the market.... until next spring.

Polaroid warns buyers not to 'Shake It'

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/02/17/polaroid.warns.reut/index.html
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- OutKast fans like to "shake it like a Polaroid picture," but the instant camera maker is warning consumers that taking the advice of the hip-hop stars could ruin your snapshots.

OutKast's number one hit "Hey Ya" includes the "shake it" line as a reference to the motion that amateur photographers use to help along the self-developing film.

But in the "answers" section on the Polaroid Web site, the company says that shaking photos, which once helped them to dry, is not necessary since the modern version of Polaroid film dries behind a clear plastic window.

The image "never touches air, so shaking or waving has no effect," the company said on its site. "In fact, shaking or waving can actually damage the image. Rapid movement during development can cause portions of the film to separate prematurely, or can cause 'blobs' in the picture."

A Polaroid spokesman added: "Almost everybody does it, thinking that shaking accelerates the development process, but if you shake it too vigorously you could distort the image. A casual shake typically doesn't affect it."

Polaroid said its film should be laid on a flat surface and shielded from the wind, and that users should avoid bending or twisting their pictures. Of course, "lay it on a flat surface like a Polaroid picture," doesn't sound nearly as cool.

"I still say it's a shame, though. I thought we were watching the greatest shortstop since Honus Wagner, but it might wind up that all we saw was the greatest player since Barry Bonds. "

Just saw Britney's video for Toxic

Oh my god. What a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE song. I think you need to stop working with a washed up Madonna. Terrible song.

Oh ya shame on me for watching Mtv.

So where does this leave the yankees?

I am still contending that the Yankees are too old and don't have good enough pitching to really be as good as they have in the past. If you look at the core of their team, they are OLD. Bernie Williams has injury questions already (shoulder, which some are saying is a major concern). Sheffield has had some injury concerns in the past, and can also be disruptive to the clubhouse which is a problem they yankees have not had the past few years. Lofton, Posada, Mussina, Rivera, Brown and Giambi all probably have left their best years behind them.

Sure these concerns still leave the Yankees the favorites to win the AL East (if not the AL and/or the world series), they are by no means the shoe-in some believe the ARod deal made them. By the way, Vegas still have the Sox as the favorite to win the world series.

More Arod News

Well ARod is leaving Texas. Not for Boston though, hes becoming a Yankee. If you think I will bitch and moan about him going there I found some interesting points today from espn.com(its an insider link).

They put it in perspective that although they gain ARod, they did not get him for nothing, they did give up Soriano.
"Over the past two seasons, A-Rod has logged 67 Win Shares while Soriano has put up 57. These are both impressive totals and they help illustrate that while the Yankees will improve with A-Rod in the fold, they are not making a huge leap forward."

He also makes the point that I have been harping on. WHY WOULD YOU MOVE AROD??!?!?! He is by far the superior defensive player and it is noted in the article:
"Tradition, pride, primacy -- these are all nice words but there are baseball games on the line here. Jeter has gotten so bad at shortstop that not even the staunchest Yankee fan even bothers to defend him anymore.

Looking at these numbers, even Jeter himself would have to admit there is a compelling case for him to learn a new vocation rather than the clearly superior A-Rod:

Range Factor among qualifying shortstops:
2003: Rodriguez -- 5th (4.54); Jeter -- 10th/last (3.75)
2002: Rodriguez -- 4th (4.73); Jeter -- 12th/last (3.81)
2001: Rodriguez -- 2nd (4.72); Jeter -- 10th/last (3.82)
Zone Rating among qualifying shortstops:
2003: Rodriguez -- 6th (.859); Jeter -- 10th/last (.791)
2002: Rodriguez -- 1st (.919); Jeter -- 12th/last (.803)
2001: Rodriguez -- 4th (.853); Jeter -- 10th/last (.789)

Even giving Jeter some benefit of the doubt because the Yankee pitching staff has been striking out more men over the last three years than have the Rangers (110, 105 and 315 in reverse order), it is still apparent that A-Rod should not be displaced defensively by anybody except an Ozzie Smith-caliber shortstop.

Derek Jeter should be the player switching positions.Just how bad is Jeter at this point? Consider this:
defensive Win Shares per 1,000 innings. Most shortstops are over four in this category. All but
four -- including the scrubs, fill-ins, part-timers and cup of coffee drinkers were over 3.00. Derek Jeter was at 1.31. Fellow Yankees Eric Almonte and Enrique Wilson were also in the ones while Damian Jackson of the Red Sox was at 2.23. One could argue that there is some sort of bias in the number that keeps Yankee shortstops low and that is somewhat suspicious. Having talented third basemen like Robin Ventura and Aaron Boone playing next to them could have kept them from making more plays, but even spotting Jeter another two defensive Win Shares per 1,000 innings would still put him light years behind Rodriguez. Defensive stats are a lot more murky than their offensive counterparts, but the discrepancies between A-Rod and Jeter are so
vast that they transcend any murkiness caused by the shortcomings of the tools.

Consider this, too: who would you rather have adapting to a new position: a man who is at the top of the offensive heap or someone who is much closer to the middle? Jeter is the Yankee captain. Captains are supposed to lead by example and I can think of no better example of leadership than Jeter taking up a new position to accommodate one of the best shortstops in the history of the game. It is, to dance delicately around a hackneyed phrase, a decision that does not require any brain power."

One of my biggest pet peeves

You know what I hate? Is when people are supposed to sing the national anthem adn they make it into a showcase for themselves. You know what I mean, they change the pitch all around and things like that. Why can't they just sing it as it was written? Otherwise, You are just butchering our anthem, the song that is supposed to represent our country.

Is this just me?

No offense to Heather, but shes not as hot as Jennie (So I thought). THough she does kind of look like Sarah Silverman.

How stupid is the nba?

Apparently they are dumb enough to think that people will watch an all-star game that starts at 8:45 PM EST!!! ON A SUNDAY!!! Man, people can barely stay up to watch sunday and monday night football that late, and they think they can trot out a poor product at that time?

Why not 6pm EST? 3pm PST. It would work out for everyone. Yet another reason the NBA is goign down hill....

gay marriages

I felt I needed to move the commenting back up here, so y'all can see it again and maybe get fresh blood in with it.

The gay marriage thread

as far as the fact that this is about civil marriages and not religous marriages has been mentioned in this thread. Marriage was originally a religous thing that got brought into the goverment. So really, all goverment marriages should be 'civil unions' and not 'marriages' as those should be left in the church. I think this brings up a clear point of the seperation of church and state. Perhaps an easy solution is to rid the constitution of all references to marriages and only allow civil unions. Thus gay civil unions and hetero civil unions would be equal and thus accepted by the SCJ. I think I just solved the problem.

Age Limits and Sports ...

In the wake of Maurice Clarret being ruled eligible for the NFL draft it makes me wonder why the courts are even involved. I don't claim to be an expert on the legal system, but this confuses me. It especialy confuses me when the two sides (the league and the players) collectivly agree upon such age limitation, how a court can over rule a decision. Does this mean, Tiger Woods will be allowed to play on the senior PGA tour? Or that a man can go play on the LPGA tour. The seniors has an age limit, you can't play on it until you reach a certain age. The LPGA has it written in their rules that you must be a women to participate. Don't these violate anti-trust laws?

The leagues are jsut trying to protect its product as it does not want to create the problems the NBA is now having with their high school kids entering the league. What surprises me is the fact that College Football does not speak up about the age limit. It is in their best interest that the limit stays as it helps them build their programs and remain strong. Ask College Basketball coaches how hard it is knowing your recruit might only stay 1 year, or not come at all. Not only is early entry killing the NBA its killing college basketball as well. These judges can make all the rulings they want, but when the leagues are forced to close down (hello NBA) see how fair a marketplace there is then.

Massachusetts must provide Marriage not Civil Unions

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/02/04/supreme_judicial_court_rules_civil_unions_arent_enough_same_sex_couples_entitled_to_marriage/

"The Massachusetts high court ruled Wednesday that only full, equal marriage rights for gay couples -- rather than civil unions -- would meet the edict of its November decision, erasing any doubts that the nation's first same-sex marriages would take place in the state beginning in mid-May."

I am not happy about this. Marriage is an institution between man and woman. The court did make a point about seperate almost always does not mean eqaul. However this is a bad decision by the court.

The worst part of all of this is that a constitutional ammendment could not be voted on until 2006 which would allow the Courts decision to rule until then. I am for the civil unions, to let same sex couples have all of the same basic rights as heterosexual couples, however I refuse to allow the definition of the word marriage to be changed to allow for same sex unions.

Also of note form this article is that "Massachusetts has one of the highest concentrations of gay households in the country with at 1.3 percent of the total number of coupled households, according to the 2000 census. In California, 1.4 percent of the coupled households are occupied by same-sex partners. Vermont and New York also registered at 1.3 percent, while in Washington, D.C., the rate is 5.1 percent".

I rather like Michael Wilbon's response. He said (and here I'm paraphrasing): "What would I tell the kids? I'd tell them, 'Kids, that was a breast. If you are lucky enough to live to be 17 or 18, you may get to see a few more, and maybe even from closer.'"

The Super Bowl

Honestly, it is hard to sum up the super bowl. I mean, I felt that the Pats were going to win. I knew it was not going to be a blow it. It never has been with these Pats. The pats owened this Bowl except for a few mintes when the Cats pulled even at the end. I mean, I knew we were really really good. I never reallyt doubted that we would win. It is hard to imagine that. Viniteiri missd those 2 field goals, that was tough.

SO much fun to win. If you have won somethign that you loved. then you know what i mean. Although it is almos getitng old hat(2 in 3 years?) we still love it. to get another parade. that is awesome.

I LOVE MY PATS!!!
