Age Limits and Sports ...

In the wake of Maurice Clarret being ruled eligible for the NFL draft it makes me wonder why the courts are even involved. I don't claim to be an expert on the legal system, but this confuses me. It especialy confuses me when the two sides (the league and the players) collectivly agree upon such age limitation, how a court can over rule a decision. Does this mean, Tiger Woods will be allowed to play on the senior PGA tour? Or that a man can go play on the LPGA tour. The seniors has an age limit, you can't play on it until you reach a certain age. The LPGA has it written in their rules that you must be a women to participate. Don't these violate anti-trust laws?

The leagues are jsut trying to protect its product as it does not want to create the problems the NBA is now having with their high school kids entering the league. What surprises me is the fact that College Football does not speak up about the age limit. It is in their best interest that the limit stays as it helps them build their programs and remain strong. Ask College Basketball coaches how hard it is knowing your recruit might only stay 1 year, or not come at all. Not only is early entry killing the NBA its killing college basketball as well. These judges can make all the rulings they want, but when the leagues are forced to close down (hello NBA) see how fair a marketplace there is then.
