As if the knicks were not bad enough ...

They go and hire Isiah Thomas. This man has ruined the Raptors, CBA, and the Pacers, now he moves on to the Knicks. He failed, as the GM(i believe, maybe just as upper management) of the raptors to get them to progress. As the Pacer's Coach he took the most talented team in the East and turned them into playoff losers versus a vastly inferior Celtics team. His substitution patterns puzzled everyoen including his players.

For a team in such disarray as the Knicks this is clearly a bad move that will only further put the team, always hoping for a quick fix, further in the hole. Someone shoudl have told the knicks that Lebron already was drafted...

Drink responsibly during the Holidays ...

  • If you are a woman, remember: Women are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol. If you are a man, remember: Women are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol.

  • Drinking more than seven nights a week is not just irresponsible, it's impossible.

  • Don't mix alcohol with stereotypes. If you are Irish, drink rum. If you are a pirate, drink whiskey.

  • Don't drink and drive. Disregard this if you happen to be one of those people who drive better drunk.

  • If you suddenly find yourself impaired by alcohol, prevent any social awkwardness by informing all those present that you profoundly love them, and that you never get this drunk.

  • Before heading out to the office holiday party, tape a handcuff key to the inside of your watchband. Just trust us on this one.

thanks to the onion for these tips.

Is the Union being shortsighted on an A-Rod move?

Here is a a great article on how the Union is not thinking the right way about allowing ARod to decrease the value of his contract to move to Boston.
http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/story?id=1689191 Unfortunatly you have to be an insider to read it so i will grab som key phrases from it:

  • Bob Hohler of the Boston Globe points out the irony that an organization that fought hard for the unrestricted movement of its members is doing everything in its power to restrict the movement of its members.

  • Psychological benefit:Doesn't the player's mental health count for something? Think about this: as long as Rodriguez plays for the Rangers, he is going to have to watch an average of six opponents per game run, trot or walk past his shortstop position on their way to the plate. After a while, that has to take a toll on a man. Six runs per game for 10 years. Good gracious! That's something like 10,000 runs! (If one rounds off liberally.) It's enough to drive a sane man stark raving crackers. Surely the Players Association wouldn't stand in the way of allowing one of its rank and file the opportunity to escape that particular brand of madness?

  • If he were allowed to make a new home in Boston, I put it to you that his financial situation would improve, regardless of what it said on his contract. Why? Because his ancillary financial opportunities would be greatly enhanced. He would be joining a team that represents a region, and with that would come great opportunities for more endorsements. What is more, he would be playing for a team with a good shot at winning it all -- something that just isn't going to happen with the Rangers. As the best player on the best team, he would have even more endorsement opportunities still.

  • If Gene Orza and Donald Fehr would take a moment to reflect on the ramifications of A-Rod going to the Red Sox, they would see that the so-called "ripple effect" the adjustment of his contract would have would be far outweighed by the benefit it would give to the overall financial well being of the rank and file. What do I mean by this? Consider that for every Red Sox action there is an unequal and outrageous Yankee reaction. The stronger the Red Sox get, the more money Yankee owner George Steinbrenner is going to spend to counteract their gains. That spending isn't going to capital improvements at Yankee Stadium, either. No, it's going toward a larger and larger payroll. Who benefits from a larger payroll? That's right -- players. And who is it that the Players Association represents? That's right players -- hence the name.

No really, the new Hummers are cool ... I swear

Excerpts from F-U- Hummer site , a must read:

  • The H2 is the ultimate poseur vehicle. It has the chassis of a Chevy Tahoe and a body that looks like the original Hummer; i.e. it's a Chevy Tahoe in disguise.

  • The H2 is a gas guzzler. Because it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 8500 lbs, the US government does not require it to meet federal fuel efficiency regulations. Hummer isn't even required to publish its fuel economy (owners indicate that they get around 10 mpg for normal use). So while our brothers and sisters are off in the Middle East risking their lives to secure America's fossil fuel future, H2 drivers are pissing away our "spoils of victory" during each trip to the grocery store.

  • The H2 is a polluter. Based on G.M.'s optimistic claim that it gets13 mpg, an H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions in a typical year, nearly double that of G.M.'s Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

  • The H2 is a tax loophole. Under Bush's new tax plan, business owners can deduct the entire cost of their $55,000 H2. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $20,000! The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car.

Oh ya, did i mention they are pretty damn ugly cars. I like how they are built on Tahoe chassis. This is almsot as funny as those ugly cars(PT cruisers, another stupid fad car) being built on neon chassis.

    Special Treatment Rules

    from: Espn.com

Its so nice to see that Alanzo Mourning found a donor to give him a kidney. Its good to know that all the deserving people on the organ donor list mean nothing when a 'celebrity' needs a kidney. Boy I know that if I was on the waiting list I would surely let ALANZO pass me by. I am sorry but I am outraged by this. It is not that I dont think Alanzo should get a kidney, I just think that there are others that are(have been) waiting for kidneys that should get them first.

Its a shame this is how our society works. For all of you out there please take time to become an Organ Donor . They might just save your life one day.

And of course my opinion: You can't use your organs in the grave.

    Antoine Walker Returns

I am still quite amazed at how the 'fans' miss him. The guy was overrated and was not good for this team. A year ago they were calling to trade him. Now that they have, they all miss him and want him back. Antoine is not a great player. Of course, that is difficult to say when he puts up big numbers for dallas. Lets be honest though, getting assists in Dallas is not brain surgery. When you have a team such as Dallas that gets out on the breaks and shoots very well, assists will come plentiful. Antoine looks alot better in Dallas for another simple reason. He doesn't feel he has to carry the team every night as he thought he needed to in Boston(as he really did need to). Most games, he feels he doesn't need to jack 30 3-pointers (though I am sure he would if he could). He knows hes on a team with at least 3 scorers on the floor at any given moment. He does like to make the pass at times. (That is one trend I am enjoying seeing come back into the league, the pass being as valued as the finish).

And don't forget. One day Jiri will make us forget all about Walker. He has already for me. Jiri for Walker, a good trade.

    PATS WIN AGAIN!

The pats beat the jaguars. Another nice and snowy game. The only bad part of the game was the garbage time(3:22 remaining) touchdown the Pats allowed which made Jacksonville the first visiting team to reach the endzone in foxboroughsince the titans did it on October 5th with 4:40 remaining. It had been 62 opponents drives and 19 quarters since that touchdown.

Also in patriots news. Tom Brady and (Former Patriot) Lawyer Milloy appear in the movie "Stuck on you". They are the computer technicians who enlarge Cher's butt. I did not recognize them, but my buddy did and it was confirmed in the credits. Cam Neely(former Bruin) and John Dennis(former sports anchor, radio host) appear as well.

    Sox sign Foulke

Looks like the sox tied up The former A's closer, Keith Foulke for 3 years at 21 million. He should help the sox as they try to solidify the clearest weakness the sox had last year, the bullpen. The contract also includes a fourth year option.

    more details at espn.com

However there is still no movement on the alex rodriguez front. Most people are saying this potential deal has stalled and Arod will most likely end up as a Ranger next year.

Pats are #1 in the AFC

Well the pats beat Miami sunday to bring their record to 10-2. Combine that with the shelling Denver put on Kansas City, and you have the #1 Patriots. The Chiefs, now 10-2, lose out on tiebreakers to the Patriots due to the fact that both of Kansas City's losses have come within the conference and only one of the Patriots's has.

The game, which was played during the tail end of a snow storm, that saw 2 feet of snow get dropped in the area, was a typical grind it out clod, snow game. The pats got 1 touchdown on a 4 yard interception return by none other than Tedy Brushi. The Patriots also got a safety by Jarvis Green to seal the win on Miami's last drive. As dull as you may have thought the game was going to be in the weather, it turned out to be quite a good game. Both teams had their chances to move the ball in position, but the defenses always stepped up when needed.

    the commute today

If you live in the Greater Boston area today, commute via highways to work, and didn't shoot yourself, congratulations.

Today's commute was being rated as the worst many people have EVER SEEN. I got on the highway with out checking the traffic report(my bad). I leave late (10 am) to avoid what is already a long, horrible drive during the rush hour. I left later than usual this morning (around 10:20). I jumped on to the highway and stopped. After going stop and go for a few miles, I began to worry that it was not merely a construction delay or minor accident. I tried to call Smartraveler to get the traffic reports, but for the first time since i first started commuting (5 years ago) the line was busy. After trying a few more times, i finally got through. For each road there was a generic message first. The Metro Boston area is a mess due to snow squalls and icy conditions. At least during last years record setting blizzard, everyone knew it was coming and thus stayed of the roads, so there was no delay like this.

Boston, is a mess right now, and the snow season has barely started. Last night my house recieved a dusting and my ride tripled in length, imagine if we got a foot. It is times like these I am glad to have a job that allows me to work at home.

    Curt is coming to town

Here is a link from redsox.com

The red sox have aquired the 37 year old pitcher from Arizona. Fossum, Lyon and two minor leaguers were involved in the exchange for schilling. The trade became official after the red sox agreed on a 2 year extension with a 3rd year option. This now makes Schilling under contract with the sox for the next 3 years and possibly a 4th.

The new sox rotation: Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Wakefield, and someone else (Kim, Arroyo, or williamson?).

Its a good move and only the beginning as we were promised by theo Epstein, the Sox GM.
