Thanks "too cool for school" Ricky Williams

"Marijuana is 10 times better for me than Paxil" Williams said as quoted by ESPN.com

He is striking me as the kind of guy that is just trying TOO HARD to 'be cool'.

"He also said he admired reggae singer Bob Marley, who was reputed to smoke it every day before his death."

This is worse than those college kids with dreadlocks who play Marley all day long. and make april 20th a big holiday for themselves.

OVER THE TOP.

The son from Nip/Tuck

Ok this kid has been freaking me out for the past year whenever I caught the show Nip/Tuck on FX. He plays the son of one of the doctors.

Now tell me he does not look like Michael Jackson? The eyes and the nose. Oh ya, the whiteness of the skin too, lol.

The Patriots clinch the AFC East!

Well the 2nd best team in the East (the Dolphins) lost star running back Ricky Williams. He decided to retire. I don't blame him, I don't want millions of dollars either. Oh sure some people don't care about the money (liars!). Maybe it was the hair pulling. Perhaps he was notified he had failed a drug test and rather than face a suspension, he retired. Maybe he was interested in a gay porn career. I guess we will never know exactly it was.

Well either way, now the Dolphins don't have much of a team. With Ricky and a solid defense they were a threat. Now they have no offense (or a QB).

The Yankees Suck and Giambi is Dying

The sox took the last 2 games from the yankees this weekend. Too little too late? Too soon to tell. The sox are finally starting to show the signs of life we thought they would have all season.

Was this resurgance sparked by the bench clearing fight between Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez? Can't prove that, but its a popular theory. By the way. Varitek would've killed ARod in a straight fight. Just a point. No bias. Varitek is just the toughest guy on either the Yankees and the Red Sox. You can't argue otherwise.

Now for Giambi.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1846688
It is a potentially deadly disease they are testing him for, but this will probably not threaten his life. It may threaten the remainder of the season for him. I don't care what it does for the Yankees chances, however I did spend alot of money on him for my fantasy league this year, so that is a bummer.

stump the schaub

So I watched this show for the first time today. It was horrible. First of all Stewart Scott should not be allowed on TV. His lazy eye is just plain CREEPY. Plus this show is of a gendre I don't like. I don't like when 1 guy is supposed ot be the know it all, a la Ben Stein. I just don't feel like you can trust the show. What is to stop them from being fed answers?

That and this game just has an amature feel to it. Scott and the Schaub are always talking, the show just seems too public access for ESPN.

New York/Boston blogs

http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/sports_blog/blog/dueling_07_23_04?pg=1

The parts I like best:
from the New York guy:

Oh, and does anyone in Boston actually like Schilling, or is he kind of like Clemens on the Yankees (i.e. you're glad he's there, but you won't go so far as to embrace him)? Personally, I think Schilling is trying to set himself up for coronation as the King of the Red Sox if they should win the World Series; should they not make it that far, he'll just point to his ankle and say "at least I tried."

and the response from the Boston guy:

The thing with Schilling is everybody’s sick of him, except for certain online communities where he’s seen as a pied piper. He’s everywhere, from hawking coronary blocking sandwiches to pick-up trucks, you can’t walk a block without seeing his mug on some magazine, billboard, or store window advertisement. He strikes out the opposition. He stops drunk drivers. He legitimizes chat rooms. (Off the record of course. Wink.)

Folks around here do like having Schilling in town. It’s just that from time to time you need him to go away.

To which I must respond, "Did you know the distance from the pitching mound to home plate is 60'6"?"

"I love that the Department of Homeland Security always tells Americans if you don't fly commercial airlines, 'the terrorists have won.' If you don't hold the Super Bowl or the World Series, 'the terrorists have won.' If you don't get out to the mall and do your Christmas shopping, 'the terrorists have won.' Comes time for the election, 'Oh, let the terrorists have that one.'"

Carlos Boozer

According to sources in Cleveland, Boozer and Rob Pelinka approached the Cavs about letting him out of the last year of his contract June 30. Boozer could have been Cleveland's next season for $695,000, but the Cavaliers did not pick up their option after, the club said, Boozer had committed to re-signing for the team's full midlevel exception -- somewhere around six years and $40 million.

Since then Boozer has agreed to a six-year, $68 million contract with the Utah Jazz.

All of this controversy has lead Boozer's agent, Pelinka, to resign as Boozer's agent.

Where to even begin with this thing. The player asks for a little respect from his team, and for once the team gave it to him, and the player stabs them in the back. The Cavs could've had Boozer back for about $695k by exercising an option on his cntract. This is low. It would be one thing if the Cavs did this move on their on. When the player comes along and asks for this arrangment you expect him to live up to it.

The best scene of Jaws

That would be the wine scene. When Hooper(Richard Dreyfuss) says "you are gonna want to let that breath ... ok". As Chief Brody(Roy Scheider) fills up his dinner cup full of wine.

Why Fred McGriff is a Hall of Famer and Rafeal Palmerio is not

Both players should end their career with 500+ homers. Here is the key point. At one point (the Blue Jay / San Diego years) Fred McGriff was one of the best first basemen of his time. Everyone feared him. He might be the the last automatic 500 homerun bid. The others that might do it (Bagwell, Thomas, etc) are not going to be automatic. If you ask this guy, right now, McGriff is Hall Of Famer. Actually, him still playing, cheapens his career. He was a part of great teams in Toronto, and for that one year, San Diego.

Oh ya, Rafeal. Never the same pizzaz tha McGriff. At one point McGriff was the only who homered 20+ times for some amount of years. Thats why he was mentioned with greatness. Its for the same reason Ken Griffey Jr. is first ballot hall of famer no matter what happesn with the rest of his career. Some times 5+ years of greatness outlive 15+ of medicority.

Jeter's 'great play'

Guess what everyone. He botched that play. He shouldnt have been in the stands in the first place. Surprise, surprise, The play became over hyped almost instantly.

But hey. Lets focus on more important issues.
  • Nomar. He must leave now. He has worn out his welcome, and it looks like he knows that. He doesn't want to be here, and we don't want him here if he is going to show his hatred back.

  • The sox choked again.

  • Francona needs to be gone. I know he 'loves these guys'. Thats not good enough. Maybe the Sox should hire Bob Brenly, recently fired from the Diamond Backs.

Bill Cosby has more harsh words for black community

CHICAGO -- Bill Cosby went off on another tirade against the black community Thursday, telling a room full of activists that too many black men are beating their wives while their children run around not knowing how to read or write.

Cosby made headlines in May when he upbraided some poor blacks for their grammar and accused them of squandering opportunities the civil rights movement gave them. He shot back Thursday, saying his detractors were trying in vain to hide the black community's "dirty laundry."

"Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other n------ as they're walking up and down the street," Cosby said during an appearance at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition & Citizenship Education Fund's annual conference.

"They think they're hip," the entertainer said. "They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere."

He also had harsh words for black men who don't have jobs and are angry about their lives.

"You've got to stop beating up your women because you can't find a job, because you didn't want to get an education and now you're (earning) minimum wage," Cosby said. "You should have thought more of yourself when you were in high school, when you had an opportunity."

In his remarks in May at a commemoration of the anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education desegregation decision, Cosby denounced some blacks' grammar and said those who commit crimes and wind up behind bars "are not political prisoners."

"I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said then. "And then I heard the father talk ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth."

Cosby elaborated Thursday on his previous comments in a talk interrupted several times by applause. He castigated some blacks, saying that they cannot simply blame whites for problems such as teen pregnancy and high school dropout rates.

"For me there is a time ... when we have to turn the mirror around," he said. "Because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us. And it keeps a person frozen in their seat, it keeps you frozen in your hole you're sitting in."

Cosby lamented that the racial slurs once used by those who lynched blacks are now a favorite expression of black children. And he blamed parents.

"When you put on a record and that record is yelling n----- and you've got your little 6-year-old, 7-year-old sitting in the back seat of the car, those children hear that," he said.

Cosby appeared Thursday with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder and president of the education fund, who defended the entertainer's statements.

"Bill is saying let's fight the right fight, let's level the playing field," Jackson said. "Drunk people can't do that. Illiterate people can't do that."

Cosby also said many young people are failing to honor the sacrifices made by those who struggled and died during the civil rights movement.

"Dogs, water hoses that tear the bark off trees, Emmett Till," he said, naming the black youth who was tortured and murdered in Mississippi in 1955, allegedly for whistling at a white woman. "And you're going to tell me you're going to drop out of school? You're going to tell me you're going to steal from a store?"

Cosby also said he wasn't concerned that some whites took his comments and turned them "against our people."

    "Let them talk," he said.

Ya, I have said some things against Cosby in this blog. What exactly does this mean though? I like the fact he is calling 'his people' out. Challenging them to not 'squander[] opportunities the civil rights movement gave them'

Powerful words given by a man who rode a civil rights wave to stardom. God bless Bill.
