Ellen to be new Idol judge?

We have Paula's replacement and it will be Ellen. What the hell? Is this a blatant grab for the gay/lesbian community? Is it an attempt to add humor into the judges table? I don't get how she fits in. What kind of music background does she have?

This makes no sense...
